The customer required a powerful mission computer capable of running their own software applications in a standard Intel Linux environment, to be fit to an existing ground vehicle platform. The graphics output of this mission computer needed to be presented to crewmembers using a high brightness, high definition, small, rugged, mission display with a compatible video interface. Furthermore, the operator needed to be able to interact with the application software using a touchscreen-based interface that was useable even when wearing gloves. Finally, the chosen solution needed to comply with the significant size, weight, power and environmental constraints imposed by the vehicle.
The combination of the tactical mission computer and rugged display provided the customer with a fully compliant, integrated solution. Curtiss-Wright’s ability to supply custom-designed, fully tested cabling for connection of the computer and display to the vehicle electronics system reduced the customer’s design costs and exposure to risk. Finally, the selection of a COTS sysytems minimized the cost to the customer while also providing a proven, highly reliable solution.
