Degraded Visual Environment (DVE)

Degraded Visual Environment systems provide pilots with the advanced visual technology needed to safely land their aircraft. See how our DVE systems can help you!

Uncovering the Invisible Case Study

Thousands of helicopters, both in military and commercial applications, experience non-optimal weather conditions caused by snowstorms, sea spray, blowing sand, dust, fog, smoke, etc. on a daily basis. These degraded visual environments (DVE) contribute to aircraft crashes and reduced operational effectiveness. When an existing customer required graphics processing and data storage that could handle their DVE sensor system requirements, they contacted Curtiss-Wright to provide a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution that could reduce their cost and time-to-market, while at the same time providing a long lifecycle.

Charlie Whisky One to Control. Preparing for landing. I’m getting rotor wash. Ground visuals lost; we’re going to have to turn this around. Over.

Every day airborne missions are aborted due to severe weather conditions and degraded visual environments that make landing coordinates invisible to aircraft pilots. Degraded Visual Environment systems provide pilots with the advanced visual technology needed to safely land their aircraft. These critical systems need safety certifiable technology to keep their missions on track.

When custom-built, their deployment cycles and certification processes cost millions and take years.

Delaying development.

Compromising your delivery schedule.

Curtiss-Wright has created the VPX3-719 Graphics and Video Capture module, a pre-designed Commercial Off the Shelf module that is safety certifiable and can be implemented in your DVE system within weeks.

Getting your aircraft off the ground quickly, and back on the ground safely, in the most adverse conditions.

Certification artifact kits are readily available, providing the data required to support your safety certification efforts.

Curtiss-Wright has created a line of Safety Certifiable COTS modules that ensure,

With a life cycle of 15+ years, our modules are built to last.

Your development
Your production
Your reputation
… are all uncompromised.
