My name is Steve Petric - I'm a Senior Product Manager for Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions and I'm here today to discuss our most popular data storage solution, the DTS1. This is the embedded industry’s first commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) data-at-rest (DAR) network attached storage (NAS) solution that supports two layers of full disk encryption in a single device. This rugged, secure and certified device is currently listed on NSA’s CSfC Components List. The DTS1 has also been certified through Common Criteria and NATO as well. The small form factor DTS1 stores and protects large amounts of classified data on many types of vehicles including: unmanned vehicles (UAV, UUV, USV), ground vehicles, helicopters, and intelligence surveillance reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft.
This is a 1 gigabit network attached storage device that is easily integrated into network-centric systems and houses one Removable Memory Cartridge (RMC) which is considered unclassified when in transport. The RMC can be easily removed from one DTS1 and installed into any other DTS1 providing full, seamless, data transfer between one or more networks in separate locations, like ground to vehicle to ground, providing quick data offloading. The RMC capacity ranges from 256 GB up to 4TB and soon 8TB capacity RMC will be available. Large secure capacity allows for longer mission durations.
The design is small in size and the height is less than a golf ball. It weighs less than 4 lbs with the RMC with average power dissipation of 15 watts so it offers reduced SWaP. The DTS1 also provides two mounting options that make it easy to integrate into your platform: L-brackets or DZUS. The DZUS flange allows the unit to be mounted in a standard panel mount or cockpit. With the L-brackets, the DTS1 can be bottom-mounted, top-mounted, or side mounted. This flexible option allows the use of a conduction-cooled plate for severe environments. Speaking of conduction-cooled plate, we recently completed testing the operation of the DTS1 in +85C for over 90 minutes while using a cold plate. This is especially important for high altitude operations.
Curtiss Wright is proud to offer the DTS1 as the embedded industry’s first commercial off-the-shelf data-at-rest network attached storage solution with 2 layers of full disk encryption in a single device. The DTS1 is not only small, rugged and secure it is certified by the NSA, Common Criteria and NATO. If you are interested in the DTS1 please visit the curtisswrightds.com website for more information.
