Curtiss-Wright Collaborates with Ampex to Provide Integrated Chapter 10 Recorder and DAU for FTI

The agreement extends one of the world’s most widely installed aircraft flight test instrumentation systems to include a world-class Chapter 10 capability

ETTC 2015, TOULOUSE, FRANCE  –  June 11, 2015 – Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its Defense Solutions division has released an integrated IRIG 106 Chapter 10 solution for the Flight Test Instrumentation (FTI) market. Integrating Ampex Data Systems’ miniR700 IRIG Chapter 10 mini-recorder with Curtiss-Wright’s COTS-based Acra KAM-500 data acquisition unit (DAU) subsystem, the fully tested and verified solution provides the flight test community with a no-risk, turnkey solution for unified data acquisition and recording. As a result of the extended collaboration between Curtiss-Wright and Ampex, FTI system designers can now quickly and intuitively configure a miniR700 IRIG Chapter 10 mini-recorder with the Acra KAM-500 DAU using DAS Studio software. In addition, the recorded data can be replayed using the same analysis software as the live telemetry data. Curtiss-Wright and Ampex worked together to eliminate the risk of integrating the two product lines so that customers can confidently use the two products with the assurance that they will work together seamlessly.

"This fully integrated and tested solution adds a market-leading Chapter 10 capability to our modular, rugged Acra KAM-500, one of the world’s most widely installed aircraft flight test instrumentation systems," said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President, and General Manager, Defense Solutions division. "The compact modular Ampex miniR700 IRIG Chapter 10 Recorder is an ideal addition to a flight test configuration, enabling our customers to integrate Chapter 10 recording into their system as quickly and easily as they would add a new acquisition module."

"This collaboration provides our customers with a single integrated solution to their complex flight test requirements," said Gary Thom, President, Ampex Data Systems Corporation. "Aligning the strengths of our two companies enables us to focus on what we do best, high-performance recording and storage while benefiting from the Acra KAM-500’s breadth of data acquisition interfaces and its scalable architecture."
