PacStar Receives Hardware and Software Patent Awards

US Patent Office recognizes PacStar’s continued innovation on its 400-Series interconnect system and IQ-Core® Software call diagnostics.

Portland, OR — February 9, 2016 – PacStar, a leading developer and supplier of advanced communications solutions for commercial, industrial and defense markets, announces the award of two new patents by the U.S. Patent Office: one for innovations on deployable hardware, and the other for advances in integrated software for phone call diagnostics. The new patents recognize PacStar’s dedication to continuous innovation and add to its already existing patent portfolio, which is centered on improving deployability and manageability of COTS tactical communications equipment.

The first patent, No. 9,225,102, protects PacStar’s innovative modular power-interconnect system, used extensively in the PacStar 400-Series modular communications products.  This interconnect system enables customers to “snap-together” PacStar’s rugged communications modules, sharing a single AC or DC power source through rugged connectors. Additionally, the connectors enable the combined modules to run on DC power provided by one or more common tactical radio batteries, using standard battery connectors. The combined solution enables:

  • Module sharing of a single power connection to worldwide AC power.
  • The ability to seamlessly transition to radio battery provided DC power in the event of AC power failure.
  • The ability to hot-swap between two radio batteries, providing uninterrupted service.

The interconnect system further enables the modules to be quickly inserted into a variety of rugged and deployable chassis, drawing power from the same connectors without additional power cabling. This capability enables modules to be used standalone, in small kits, embedded in PacStar’s “Smart Chassis”, or in command-post style kits such as the PacStar’s “Mini-Transit Case,” creating a full family of modular, flexible and deployable solutions.

“We’re proud of the pace and customer orientation of our design and engineering teams,” states Peggy Miller, chief executive officer.  “This is further recognition of the inventive spirit we bring to solving our customers’ challenges.”

The second patent, No. 9,160,619, protects PacStar’s IQ-Core Software’s ability to monitor, alert and troubleshoot multiple network devices involved in the setup and transmission of voice/video communications. By smartly managing and monitoring systems comprising call control systems, voice gateways, routers and switches, IQ-Core Software puts the process of deploying and managing advanced unified communications solutions within reach of lightly-trained communications specialists. This new patent recognizes a small, but important, subset of IQ-Core Software’s cross-device management strength. PacStar is now applying that expertise to additional areas including VPN management for remote or classified communications.
