Curtiss-Wright, Lynx Software Technologies, ENSCO Avionics, and CoreAVI Demo LynxOS-178 Safety Certified RTOS for SBCs

COTS-based iDATA Human Machine Interface (HMI) demonstration features FACE aligned LYNXOS-178 2.2.4 RTCA/DO-178B Level A safety-certified RTOS with Curtiss-Wright’s VPX3-131 SBC and XMC-715 AMD E4690 high-performance graphics processor

AVIATION ELECTRONICS EUROPE 2017, Munich, Germany (Booth #G5) – April 25, 2017 – Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division, in collaboration with Lynx Software TechnologiesENSCO Avionics, and Core Avionics & Industrial Inc. (CoreAVI), will demonstrate Lynx’s LynxOS-178 2.2.4 RTCA/DO-178B Level A Safety Certified RTOS at Aviation Electronics Europe 2017. The demo will be hosted in Lynx’s booth (Booth #G5). The LynxOS-178 2.2.4 RTOS, Lynx’s latest version of its hard real-time DO-178B level A operating system, is aligned with the FACE™ APIs for the Security, Safety Base, and Safety Extended Profiles of the FACE Operating System Segment. The demo will feature a COTS-based Glass Cockpit solution that showcases Curtiss-Wright’s open-standards based VPX3-131 3U OpenVPX™ single board computer (SBC) coupled with the AMD Radeon™ E4690-based XMC-715 high-performance graphics processor mezzanine card.

The demonstration, which will also feature CoreAVI graphics drivers and ENSCO Avionics’ IData software, highlights a proven single-slot solution for quickly integrating avionics applications using high-performance COTS hardware. For customers seeking safety certifiable COTS hardware, Curtiss-Wright offers a wide range of subsystems and SBCs, graphics, and I/O modules needed to develop a complete DO-254/DO-178 certifiable solution. For applications that require higher graphics performance, Curtiss-Wright also offers the VPX3-716, an AMD Radeon E8860-based 3U OpenVPX Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), and the VPX3-719, which adds HD-SDI interfaces and video capture capabilities.

Curtiss-Wright’s safety certifiable multi-core processor SBCs and graphics modules provide system designers with a complete COTS hardware/software solution for avionics systems.  To speed and ease the safety certification process, an RTCA/DO-254 data artifact package is available for each board. LynxOS-178 software drivers for Curtiss-Wright’s VPX3-131, VPX6-187, and VME-183 SBCs are available from Lynx.

“The FACE standard is a big step forward for bringing security and interoperability to critical defense avionics systems,” said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions division. “We are very pleased, along with Lynx Software Technologies to demonstrate FACE-aligned safety certifiable software solutions on our cost-effective COTS hardware, designed to speed the delivery of new capabilities to airborne platforms.”

“The combination of our DO-178C DAL A certified LynxOS-178 RTOS technology with the rugged safety certifiable COTS hardware solutions from Curtiss-Wright offers a very compelling and quick time to market safety solution for complex avionics systems,” said John Blevins, Director RTOS Products at Lynx Software Technologies. “Customers that use Curtiss-Wright boards and our RTOS should feel confident that they are getting state of the art support for both their hardware and software combinations, while also maximizing the intended portability and reduced time to certification and deployment that the FACE standard promises.”
