Rugged Ethernet Switches Complete Rigorous MIL-STD & DO-160 Testing by Curtiss-Wright

Comprehensive qualification testing on small form-factor networking systems encompasses severe MIL-STD and commercial aerospace requirements

ASHBURN, Va.  - January 8, 2015 - Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW) today announced that its Defense Solutions division has successfully qualified its latest Parvus® DuraNET® Switches, to meet commercial aerospace (DO-160) and military (MIL-STD-810) standards. The 20-port DuraNET 20-10 Gigabit Ethernet Switch and 19-port DuraNET 30-2020 Cisco® IOS-managed Ethernet Switch systems completed and passed all MIL-STD and RTCA/DO-160 environmental and EMI certification requirements. The systems also met EMI and power quality compliance testing per MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-704F, MIL-STD-1275D, and RTCA/DO-160G.

The successful testing pre-validates the ruggedness and suitability of these products for use in demanding civil and military aerospace and ground vehicle applications. Because these rugged Ethernet switches are pre-tested they eliminate the risk, time, and expense that system integrators might confront if required to perform their own MIL-STD or DO-160 qualification. The FAA-mandated RTCA/DO-160 and MIL-STD testing of Curtiss-Wright's Parvus DuraNET products promises to speed and ease the integration of these rugged SWaP-C optimized small form-factor line replaceable units (LRUs) into commercial and defense airborne/ground vehicle platforms. The DuraNET 30-2020 and DuraNET 20-10 Ethernet Switches are ideal for use in network connectivity, situational awareness, and C4ISR Integration upgrade programs. They are designed to deliver optimal performance in deployed aircraft, ground vehicles, and tactical communications system applications.

"We're pleased to announce the successful completion of demanding military and commercial qualification testing on our industry-leading Parvus DuraNET Ethernet switch systems," said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Defense Solutions division. "This rigorous testing regimen, undertaken at no additional cost to our customers, demonstrates the reliability and ruggedness of these new Ethernet switch solutions. Furthermore, it provides our customers with pre-qualified COTS solutions that eliminate the potential risk, time, and expense they would otherwise incur if performing the required tests on their own."?

Responding to increasing interest from commercial aviation market customers in its broad range of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) subsystem solutions, Curtiss-Wright announced earlier this year that it was expanding the testing parameters for its latest and next-generation Parvus DuraCOR®, DuraMAR®, DuraNET, and DuraWORX® subsystem products. In addition to MIL-STD testing, the rigorous evaluation also supports civil aviation requirements by providing RTCA/DO-160 qualification test reports. The testing is undertaken at no additional cost and completely eliminates those expenses that customers would otherwise incur from NRE-funded "delta" testing or "qualification-by-similarity" analysis of existing MIL-STD certified products.
