Eagle-2 Hi-Res Radar Scan Converter PMC
Eagle-2 is a high-performance radar scan converter from Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions. Eagle-2 provides improved performance and support for high-resolution screen displays up to 2560 x 1600, including 2048 x 2048, making it the perfect choice for high-end radar display applications such as air traffic control (ATC) displays, VTS display command and control consoles, and radar head monitors.
A key feature of Eagle-2 is the ability to accept a DVI graphics input signal, for mixing with the scan-converted radar. During video keying, the Eagle-2 places the video from the graphics card either as an underlay or as an overlay to the radar image. This feature is typically used in multi-layer display applications to allow target symbols to be presented as overlays and maps as underlays.
To perform radar scan conversion, Eagle-2 uses a powerful algorithm that takes advantage of the best features of forward and reverse scan conversion. Even when zooming in at long range, this radar scan converter prevents holes and spokes in the displayed image and displays all single-point targets.
The Eagle-2 accepts radar data through PCI bus transfers. The data may be transmitted from either a Curtiss-Wright Osiris radar input card or through a network via a Curtiss-Wright radar video processing unit or similar radar video server.
This radar scan conversion solution offers a flexible range of options to fit varying radar display requirements. Eagle-2 is capable of displaying scan-converted radar in a PPI (Plan Position Indicator) format as well as A-Scan and B-Scan formats. Eagle-2 allows users to create up to four radar windows, and, as needed, the PPI, A-Scan and B-Scan formats may be displayed simultaneously.
In addition, Eagle-2 is capable of displaying up to five radar sources in individual windows, which the user can fully configure. Other features include the ability to display continuously rotating radars and to support display radar inputs in sector scan mode, reverse scan mode and random scan mode, when incoming azimuths are not contiguous.
Eagle-2 supports up to 256 fade levels and allows the user to configure all fade parameters. This includes applying different fade rates to different sources within a single window or across multiple windows. In addition, different colors may be assigned to separate radar sources.
