Osiris Dual Channel Radar Interface
Osiris is a high-performance, dual-channel radar interface board that accepts and processes analog and digital radar signals and provides a PCI interface to applications. Osiris comes from a long history of radar interface products at Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions, with interfaces to support many legacy and modern radar types. With an onboard FPGA and high-speed PCI interface, Osiris offers high performance with two independent channels on a half-length PCI or PMC mezzanine format.
All radar video, triggers and azimuth data enter Osiris via a front-panel connector. From there, Osiris transmits two streams of radar video onto the PCI bus. Using one of two sets of trigger and turning data, each stream processes data from a combination of the analog and digital inputs. The feature allows two options: processing a pair of radar videos derived from a single set of azimuth turning data and triggers, or processing two separate videos, each from independent radars, using their own trigger and turning data.
Curtiss-Wright Radar Video Processor (RVP) is compatible with Osiris. RVP facilitates radar video distribution over LAN, plot extraction, video recording and target tracking. RVP enables distribution of processed video to multiple display clients after dual independent channels of radar video have been processed by the Osiris card. Multiple Osiris cards may be used together to support more complex radar installations.
Typically, RVP runs on a VME or CompactPCI (cPCI) single board computer (SBC) while the Osiris PMC board serves as the radar interface. As another option, RVP may run on a PCI-based system as the Osiris-PCI provides radar input. Osiris is supported by a board support library and device driver that provide application developers a C language programming interface. This board support package serves all functions of the board, including configuration and data transfers.
Through Osiris, a programmable delay from the active edge of the trigger starts data capture. In range, the Osiris card samples video at up to 50 MHz. It reduces data to a defined number of samples per return, matching the bandwidth of incoming video. In azimuth, the card offers two options: It may be programmed to output every return, or combine returns to output a set number per scan – in most cases, 1024, 2048 or 4096.
