The AXN/TCG/401 can accept time from an IRIG-B time source, from its onboard GNSS receiver (external antenna required), or from an external GNSS receiver outputting NMEA messages and a one PPS signal. The time can be used for synchronization of a distributed Axon data acquisition system. The module generates IRIG-B outputs to allow external devices to synchronize with the Axon system.
The module comprises a GNSS reader and an IRIG reader which decode incoming signals. The IRIG reader extracts control functions and straight binary seconds as well as time. The GNSS reader parses NMEA messages as they are generated by the receiver. Extracted navigation data such as position, altitude, velocity, and heading are available as individual parameters. The module can also be synchronized via NMEA messages being sent over RS-232 from a third party GNSS or PC with granularity of one second.
The AXN/TCG/401 also has two channels of audio-to-digital conversion. The encoding scheme used is Continuously Variable Slope Delta (CVSD) modulation
