Ground vehicle applications

Recognizing the unique needs of ground vehicle operations, the GVDU line of rugged touch displays offers an intuitive user experience while also delivering the functionality warfighters require.

Curtiss-Wright has decades of industry-leading experience developing reliable, rugged mission displays for extreme environments and applications. GVDU displays have been designed to meet the unique requirements of ground vehicle applications. Operating in harsh environments, these military applications require display solutions to operate reliably when exposed to varying light levels, debris from sand and dirt, and exposure to extreme temperatures while occupying minimal space.

Unlike commercial smartphones with similar capacitive touchscreen technology, the GVDU is designed to be washed down. GVDU displays show clear, high-resolution images, even outdoors in high brightness light conditions, without reflections. More importantly, the multi-touch touchscreen can be used in the rain and while wearing thick gloves.

GVDU displays combine market-leading performance with a rugged military design in size, weight, and power (SWaP) optimized display. Each display hosts a rich, flexible set of features, including programmable dimmable bezel buttons.

GVDU ruggedized displays are built GVA/VICTORY-ready, supporting DEF-STAN 00-250 compliant bezel buttons that deliver an optimal tactile response in high vibration environments. The display's bezel buttons are positioned along the sides of the unit and are fully programmable via USB.

"Smartphone"-like USB multi-touch screen for wet and gloved operation

Multi-touch technology enables operators to use familiar smartphone interface techniques to annotate, draw and manipulate screen images, pinch to zoom. Additional benefits of the GVDU include high brightness and improved contrast, a thinner and lighter display, and reduced costs compared to resistive touch alternatives.

Ideal for applications operating in extreme environmental conditions, these displays also maintain usability and reliability when wet.

Reduce latency end to end to increase situational awareness

The GVDU's unique low latency display buffering supports reducing latency in each system component through an innovative low latency video buffer that provides 2.7ms buffering of 1920x1080p 60fps video. On its own, this fully tested, field-proven display offers a maximum latency of just 14.86ms. When used in combination with our digital video switches, glass-to-glass latency of just 26.8ms has been measured on deployed ground vehicle systems, with a maximum of 31.53ms.

Supports a wide variety of interfaces

The GVDU's internal embedded processor supports an enhanced set of data interfaces, including Ethernet, USB, RS-232/RS-422, and GPIO. The internal processor provides graphics input to the displays and receives all touchscreen and bezel button operations. The processor may be used to implement a map display, function as a mission computer, amongst many other possibilities.

GVDU military rugged displays are available in multiple sizes, including 10.4", 12.1", and 15.6". Contact the factory for larger sizes, such as 17.3" and 21.5". These size, weight, and power (SWaP)-optimized displays are fully qualified by independent, accredited test facilities for compliance with key industry standards.

Designed to operate reliably in harsh environments

The GVDU's ruggedized design minimizes unnecessary cavities and joints with its one-piece bezel. This design feature ensures prolonged, reliable operation even while exposed to severe conditions such as debris from sand and dirt, exposure to extreme temperatures, or water from high-pressure washdowns.
