Delivering Secure, SWaP-Optimized Data Storage for Electronic Warfare Aircraft Missions

Delivering Secure, SWaP-Optimized Data Storage for Electronic Warfare Aircraft Missions

A major aerospace integrator developing an electronic warfare (EW) pod for a fighter aircraft sought a secure, small form factor, and efficient network attached storage (NAS) data storage solution. Given the pod’s size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints, the NAS needed to be compact and lightweight.

The integrator required a storage solution with removable memory to support pre-mission data loading at the ground station, transport to the aircraft pod, and post-mission data offloading. Given the extensive volume of data generated, the removable memory needed a high storage capacity.

Protecting the classified data-at-rest (DAR) stored on the NAS device against unauthorized access or compromise was critical, as the EW pod handled sensitive data requiring National Security Agency (NSA) approved encryption.
