
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) play a crucial role in modern warfare by performing vital military operations such as reconnaissance, surveillance, combat, and logistics. The demanding environments and size, weight, and power (SWaP) constraints typical of UAV applications led a UAV developer to seek a network attached storage (NAS) device capable of protecting classified mission-critical data in a rugged, small and space-constrained solution. The sensitive data collected during operations required automatic protection with National Security Agency (NSA) approved encryption.
To accelerate program development with no non-recurring engineering (NRE) investment and enable rapid integration into the platform, the developer required a ready-to-deploy NAS solution with reliable, redundant Ethernet network interfaces and expandable storage capacity to prevent data loss and enable secure storage of data-at-rest (DAR).
