What is the C5ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS)?
Rugged, deployable systems developed to Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) standards are becoming increasingly important in the defense industry. The U.S. military’s 2019 Tri-Services memo, signed by the Secretaries of the Army, Air Force, and Navy, has even explicitly mandated that “MOSA supporting standards should be included in all requirements, programming, and development activities for future weapon system modifications and new start development programs to the maximum extent possible.”
The MOSA directive has accelerated the adoption of several open standards, including The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) Technical Standard and the U.S. Army CCDC C5ISR Center’s CMOSS, which enables hardware and software commonality between platforms and command posts.
