What is the SOSA™ Technical Standard?

The U.S. military’s 2019 Tri-Services memo, signed by the Secretaries of the Army, Air Force, and Navy, has even explicitly mandated that “MOSA supporting standards should be included in all requirements, programming, and development activities for future weapon system modifications and new start development programs to the maximum extent possible.

The MOSA directive has accelerated the adoption of several open standards, including The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) Technical Standard and the U.S. Army CCDC C5ISR Center’s C5ISR/EW Modular Open Suite of Standards (CMOSS). Complementing industry standards, such as OpenVPX™ and Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™), the SOSA Technical Standard defines common hardware and software components for sensor processing systems.
