Curtiss-Wright Debuts Enhanced Miniature Network Data Acquisition and Encoding Unit for Aerospace Test Applications

New TTC MnACQ-2600 features faster CPU, 4x the DRAM, and support for both PTP IEEE-1588 v1 and IEEE-1588 v2

INTERNATIONAL TELEMETRY CONFERENCE, LAS VEGAS, Nev. (Booth #317) – October 23, 2017 -- Curtiss-Wright’s Defense Solutions division today announced that it's Aerospace Instrumentation (AI) business unit has introduced a new miniature network data acquisition encoding unit designed for use in flight test instrumentation, Ethernet-based network distributed systems, and system safety monitoring applications. The new TTC MnACQ-2600 unit processes and delivers packetized data to designated network nodes. Highly scalable, this size, weight, and power (SWaP) optimized unit supports an extremely wide range of sensors and transducers. The compact MnACQ-2600 combines an IEEE-1588 time and Ethernet overhead module, a Power Architecture® processor module, a +28 VDC +/- 4 VDC power supply (up to 230 watts), and a supporting endplate. Memory support in the unit includes 1 GB of DRAM memory and 256 MB of flash memory. The MnACQ-2600 is available separately or as an integral component in a fully integrated flight test system solution. The unit works seamlessly with Curtiss-Wright’s broad data acquisition product line, the aerospace test instrumentation industry’s largest.

Curtiss-Wright’s AI business unit was recently formed by the integration of its Dublin business unit (based in Ireland) and Teletronics Technology Corporation (TTC) business unit (based in Newtown, Pennsylvania). The combination of the two businesses has established the test and telemetry market’s leading supplier of data acquisition technologies for use in flight test instrumentation applications worldwide. The AI business unit offers the aerospace test instrumentation industry’s broadest and most experienced single source for customers of commercial and defense aerospace instrumentation system solutions.

“The introduction of a new generation of miniature network data acquisition encoding unit, the Teletronics MnACQ-2600, highlights Curtiss-Wright’s commitment to developing new products to meet our customers’ data acquisition requirements,” said Lynn Bamford, Senior Vice President, and General Manager, Defense Solutions division.

Powerful New Performance and Features

The MnACQ-2600 offers many enhancements over Curtiss-Wright’s earlier MnACQ-2000 miniature network data acquisition encoding unit. For example, the new unit now supports both versions of the Precision Time Protocol, IEEE-1588 v1 and IEEE-1588 v2. In addition to increased memory (a 4x increase in flash memory from 64MB to 256MB) and a faster processor (3.3x faster than the previous CPU, delivering 2000 DMIPs vs. 600 DMIPS), the new unit also supports expanded data payload status information, with the ability to capture and transmit such critical data as:

  • Unit temperature
  • Time lock status to the IEEE-1588
  • Various internal voltage readings
  • Calibration modes states
  • Overhead discrete status

The MnACQ-2600 handles an extremely wide range of sensors and transducers using a large library of COTS modules. The unit can condition and encode sensor/transducer data for transmission over Ethernet. Data resolution typically ranges from 12-16 bits per word, with sample rates ranging as high as 1.25 MSPS.

About the Curtiss-Wright Aerospace Instrumentation Group

In 2017, Curtiss-Wright integrated its Dublin business unit with its TTC business unit (based in Newtown, Pennsylvania), to form the Industry’s broadest and most experienced single source for customers of commercial and defense aerospace instrumentation system solutions. With the merger of the two business units, Curtiss-Wright now supports more aerospace flight test customers, platforms, and programs than any other competitor around the world. What’s more, with its increased resources and global reach, the Company is able to significantly expand the availability of its unmatched quality and customer support, while bringing even larger system-level solutions to market.

Already offering the market’s broadest range of in-house designed system-level data acquisition products - including data acquisition units (DAU), gateways, transceivers, recorders, cameras, managers, and switches - the integration of these two business units and their resources further strengthens Curtiss-Wright’s continued focus on developing new products to meet its customers’ data acquisition requirements.
